School holiday workshop FAQ

Everything Melbourne parents ask before booking — ages, what to bring, refunds and what comes next.

Which workshop is right for my child’s age?
My First Robot is designed for ages 6–8 — a gentle, hands-on introduction where every child builds a real robot. Robots Unleashed and Hack the Track suit ages 8–14, adding coding, sensors and friendly competition. If your child sits on the border (around 8), either works — call us on 0426 693 283 and we’ll help you choose.
Does my child need any coding or robotics experience?
No. Every workshop is designed for complete beginners, with our educators guiding each step. Kids who already have some experience get extension challenges so they’re always stretched, never bored.
What do I need to bring on the day?
Nothing — we supply all robots, iPads and materials. Just bring your child, a drink bottle if you like, and arrive about 10 minutes early so we can sign everyone in calmly.
How does booking and payment work?
Bookings are made securely through TryBooking, Australia’s trusted event booking platform. You’ll receive an instant confirmation email with the venue details. Spots are limited and school holiday sessions regularly sell out, so we recommend booking early.
Can parents stay and watch?
You’re welcome to stay nearby, and many parents at our library venues do. Our sessions are structured so kids settle quickly — most parents enjoy a coffee and come back to a very excited child.
What if we can no longer make it after booking?
Contact us as early as you can at [email protected] or 0426 693 283 and we’ll help you transfer to another session based on availability. We keep refunds and transfers simple.
Are your educators child-safe checked and insured?
Yes. All ThinkerLab facilitators hold a current Victorian Working With Children Check (WWCC), we carry public liability insurance, and we follow a documented child safety policy aligned with the Victorian Child Safe Standards.
My child loved the workshop — what’s next?
Most families continue with our 9-week term classes, where kids progress from first builds to real coding projects with the same hands-on style. You can also try a class first — see our free trial page for the next intro session.
